Aww shoot. Forgot and used "pea" method for TIM on my OCZ Vendetta.

Temps are at 65.5, which is about as high as I would ever want them to be.

Man. My 1045t with dinky stock cooler in an old, old case (1 80mm exhaust, 12cm power supply fan) is running ~61c running WCG flatout @ 230 FSB (~3.05 ghz) at stock vCore. I would think you'd be doing better...

That exhaust fan is blowing warm air 😉

Can you install and run OCCT 4.1.0? You don't have to start the OCCT tests themselves, just let the monitoring run.

Let me know what your "CPUTIN" value is.

My core temps, according to OCCT and CoreTemp, don't get above 42C.

But they are 6C at idle, which is unrealistic, so I don't trust those temps.

I wonder if I should set up the fan on my heatsink to push air through, instead of pull. Perhaps it isn't moving air along the length of the heatsink, and only the edges.

I double-checked the instructions for the OCZ Vendetta, they don't specify a fan direction (push or pull).

Sure, it will have to be tomorrow though. I got those values via AMD Overdrive. I was trying Speedfan, and it too told me the "core" temp was ~45C. I didn't think that was possible, and Overdrive showed me what was what. 🙂
 
i doubt any reasonable TIM application results in a difference of more than 1 or 2 degrees. unless the temps are high i wouldn't worry about it. and no way your idle was ever at 6C unless you were outside on a cold day.

this is why my case has quite a bit of cardboard in it.

push pull, cardboard duct so that the air exits the heat sink and heads straight to the exhaust holes. no fan mounted directly on the exhaust.

You may be correct about the TIM application... for that matter, I don't know that, at least in my case, adding a second fan made that much difference. Those huge gaps are really starting to bother me, they scream Thermal Inefficiency! Next time I'll be spec'ing a cooler with farther-spaced exchanger fins.

I considered some sort of duct... where my cooler is on the board, the rear fan is almost right in line with them, it wouldn't take much to make a duct and run it out the back, with or without the rear case fan.

Also, OCCT is reporting temps ~12c less than AMD Overdrive (45c versus 57c) and I am more inclined to believe AMD Overdrive in this case...

I guess that item labeled "CPUTIN" must be board-dependent, some sort of BIOS ACPI value.

When I run HWmonitor on this rig, I also see that value, but when I run HWmonitor on my K9A2 Plat. rig with my other X6, it shows "TMPIN0" and "TMPIN1".
