Awkward Studs & Mounting LCD

So i've drawn a rough sketch of my mounting options, and want to know what the best option would be.

In the pic, the brown studs are 16" on center, and the green stud is the wierd one.
The black arrow shows where the center of tv should be.
THe REd box is mount and blue box is tv.


Option C is preferred because it will let me mount a bigger tv and still be on center.
Options A+B would only work for my 46"...

What do you guys think?

Take a strong, thick piece of wood, screw it to the studs, and then screw the mount to the piece of wood. Problem solved.

2x4 painted to match the wall, screwed to at least 2 studs. Mount the bracket on the 2x4 in the best area for you.

What size TV are you trying to mount? Toggle bolts go a long way and for basicaldly every lcd you really only need to hit one stud to support a tv. Most lag bolts will hold about 60lbs no problem. If you are concerned about the weight then yes go with the wood backing. Also, if you cut out the drywall and put the wood in its place screwed to the studs you can mud over the drywall and it makes it a little more seamless.

I'm in a fairly similar situation. The wall I'm trying to mount to has no stud for about 40 inches (non-load bearing wall) because of an HVAC return running through it. Really screws up any decent plan of mounting the TV. I'll probably have to mount it to a piece of wood lagged into the studs separated by 40 inches. Hopefully my TV is long enough to cover the board.

I actually ended up pick a wider mount that would straddle 3 studs.
It was $30 more but well worth easy installation.

I think they make "extra" wide mounts that would cover 40" check monoprice.com
I picked mine up from BrandsMart, but its 36" wide

Unfortunately, I already have a mount from monoprice. I ordered it before I knew my wall was framed so strangely.

First of all, are you in a house or condo? do you know if your studs are wood or steel? Steel may not be so easy.

As far as TV covering the Board, a 46" LCD is approx 44" wide. What size is your tv?
