i can't turn my comp on with my LCD plugged in alone, the CRT has to be plugged in as well. i think this is because the computer thinks the CRT is the primary monitor. i changed this in the video card properties and it didn't help.

edits: i can't even access the video card properties now that tried disabling the CRT

when i turn my PC on with ONLY the LCD plugged in (DVI) the computer won't even think about booting.

the option (CRT monitor "1") is grayed out because i unchecked "use this device as my primary monitor" and "extend my windows desktop"

my computer is custom built with an x800XL ATI card.

thanks!

panther309,

Try going into control panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and right click the Monitor icon. Does it say it's working properly? If not, try updating the drivers and see if that helps.

Also try hooking the LCD up to a different input connector to the ATI card.

where is your CRT hook'd on to? x800XL ATI card analog or on to the motherboard?

This problem happens usually because you are hook'd on to onboard video of your motherboard. Easily remedied by changing the bios vga boot order to PCI-E/AGP before the Onboard Card.

If your monitor isn't connected to onboard vga, it's possible that your refresh rate of your CRT is set at something higher and your LCD isn't capable.

Easiest way to fix it may be, uninstall all your ATI drivers, with ATI uninstaller (you can obtain it somewhere on their website) then restart it, if you can't see your LCD booting up in bios, this is OBVIOUSLY due to bios sending signal thru onboard vga instead of your ATI card. so make sure you go disable that onboard vga first and hopefully it should go away.

Also make sure you don't plug in CRT and DVI on to that card while you are trying to do this. I've never seen an instance where Video card won't send signal thru DVI untill you get into windows.

If it doesn't, keep me posted here for more help.
