I will never fly in a small private jet since the chances of dying are higher.

I love 12 passenger turbo props. Everyone has a widow and aisle seat with plenty of leg room. You also get a flight attendant who's happy you're there. If they lose an engine, they carry right on. If they lose both engines and you're at least half the way there, you can glide the rest of the way. Plus, since they start the engines before you board, you get to recite Bogart's lines from Casablanca to your partner as you climb aboard.

Rather than getting into Austin in the late evening (which my original flight did), my Dallas flight landed at 1am. I had to be in Austin for work the next day, so I rented a car and drove the 3 hours to Austin, getting there at 4:30 am. The car rental was only $30 ish dollars, but I had to pay about $200 to drop it off at a different location.

Not sure if there were better deals. There weren't many car rental places open at 1:30 am when I got to the car rental place at DFW.

Amtrak's Texas Eagle has daily departures from Dallas @ 11:50 AM, arrives Austin 6:30 PM.
Would it have been so terrible: skipping one day of work and taking the train instead of driving a rental car?
