funny, my pc thinks it is a very demanding game. You must have a much more powerful rig than I do.

Sorry, but testing any high-powered graphics solution with a game running 1680 x 1050 is not very helpful. Who runs at that resolution? Next time try Crysis Warhead at 1600 x 1200 and 1920 x 1200 and see how things shake out.

I don't see a huge percentage difference as the resolution increases, so not sure what your point is?

I'll take the review that used more recent drivers available.

Hey, what a coincidence. Concerning Crysis Warhead, in the Guru3d review @ 1600x1200 stock GTX275 37FPS, stock HD4890 34FPS. In the Driverheaven review @ 1680x1050 stock GTX275 37FPS, stock HD4890 34FPS. But this review is about the XFX black edition at 1GHZ.

Average FPS still goes to nV on that chart.

Also, dont we usually take the highest resolution to judge cards?

Ive never really seen anyone put weight into 22 inch settings.

The 4870x2 beats the GTX 295 at the highest resolution and settings(2560x1600 with 8xaa)yet people still call the GTX 295 the faster card. It's because those settings are "too high" and nobody runs those settings so they don't count... I don't think it's fair to just arbitrarily pick a setting and say a card is overall faster because it wins at that one setting.(1920x1200 with some AA seems to be popular for that) If the 4890 Black Edition beats the GTX 285 at 1680x1050, then it does, and no amount of word twisting will change that. It's obviously not a cpu limited resolution since the fps are not identical across the board. It's also likely that a LOT more people use a 22 inch or smaller monitor than 24 inch or larger. I wouldn't be so quick to scoff at the benchmark results.

Those results are about what i see on crysis on gamer at 1680x1050. Dont look at the HIGH look at the average and min. My entire time playing through crysis warhead on my 4890 my fps hardly ever saw the light of day above 44. Average was like 30-40, in fact i dont remember my fps ever getting to the high 60's or 70's like that except maybe inside a ship or building.

I always look at those results. 19x12 or higher is Impractical to me and about 80% of the other people. Do you relise that most people game at 1680x1050 ? 19x12 is a very small margin. Oh btw 19" LCD's can do 1680x1050 its not just a 22" resolution. In fact the picture looks 10x better on the 19" due to the smaller pixel pitch.

Yea that sounds more realistic of cards from both camps. I don't like the review; I prefer a more detailed review that explores every resolution from 1680 x 1050 on up, and that compares DX9 to DX10. It's clear 4890 does well in Crysis, but I'd not say it's clearly beating competitive soltuions. It's certainly been the best battle we've seen, and drivers are better than ever.

Do you really think 1900 x 1080/1200 is still a less common resolution? This is hardly science, but look at the number of unit avaialble on the Egg for each resolution:

1680 x 1050 = 47 units

1920 x 1080 = 31 units

1920 x 1200 = 34 units

I think there are more 19x res gamers out there than believed. And don't forget those converting to lcd tv's.

I don't have a dog in this fight. For all I know, the XFX 4890 BE might kick the crap out of my GTX 275s. I just think a review using a resolution that low doesn't tell us anything useful.

Ok Wreckage, please name 5 games that are more demanding than Crysis Warhead.

Well the original Crysis for one.

No Wreckage, lol. Warhead is better optimized than the original Crytek said it themselves and some say it is more detailed than the original:
However there has been optimization in that the environment is more detailed, and there's much more action on screen at any time
