Awesome video: Dry ice bombs

There was a gas station in town that used to sell it, now we just get it from the chemistry department.

Yeah..after seeing Butterfly effect, I am not gonna fvck around with anything that explodes enough to harm my limbs.

Yeah, as much fun as that looks, it also looks incredibly unstable and I wouldn't want to be the one grabbing it and throwing it.

when we did these things freshmen year, we got 10lbs of dry ide for 10$, and we got it in pellet form, like bean bag filling, it twas good fun, noone got hurt, the best is when we put a 3 lieter bottle one in a trash can and drove off, top of teh can andd trash went about 15 feet straight up

Why would you want to imitate that? Yeah it's kinda cool the first couple of times watching it, but what's the fun in blowing up 2L bottles? 😕

I came across the dry-ice bombs serendipitously. We had some dry ice for halloween left over, and when I was sitting around with some friends we had a water bottle. So we filled the bottle up with dry ice and added some water and we we making it jet the CO2 everywhere, puffingin it and being stupid (this was way back when we were in 6th grade). SO for some reason I decided to put the cap on, suddendly the bottle expanded (now mind you unlike these guys I had the bottle mostly full of dry ice). We knew something was bad so we tossed it in the kitchen sink (luckily a solid metal one), and took cover behind a wall. THe explosion was heard outside, though we couldn't hear anything for about 20-30 seconds. I remeber my dad coming in yelling at me and in the typical war scene all I hear is ringning in my ears and suddnely in a reverse fade the words he was saying. Later we learned of the full potential, which was also fun, but the greatest is that down in south-texas the grocery stores sell dry ice, and not expensive either.

I'm not going to blow up pop bottles.

I'm not going to blow up pop bottles.

Then what are you gonna blow up? 🙂

Animals.

It's probably fun the first couple of times.

I've blown up 2 litre bottles before as well.

This is NOT dry ice

Based on the color of the flame and the corona I would say that is ethanol. That reminds me of a chemistry demonstration "blooper" I saw once. The guy added too much oxgen in one of teh 5 gallon water cooler tanks with the ethanol mixture. THe explosion knocked the guy down and flung the blast sheild accross the room, no one was hurt but scared everybody in the room.

Is it sodium chloride that explodes when it hits water? I recall a video where they dropped a big brick of it into a lake. Pretty cool.

I certainly hope not.

Maybe you mean metallic sodium.
