Awesome tanks training session i witnessed today

Since I'm in 12th grade and in Israel, you're recruited right out of high school, during 12th grade, there's a lot of activities regarding the IDF.

today we went to area where the main tank battles of the 1973 war happened. we then witnessed 7 Merkava Mk. 3 Baz D tanks training. it was just so cool. those tanks are pretty fast and so cool. really accurate as well. I'll only be able to add images tomorrow. until then enjoy these:

crap. this is exactly what i didn't want to happen. yes the mk4 is better but it's needed elsewhere. and to show us a cool 20 minutes training manuver, the mk3 is just fine. all they did really was fire the machine gun, the mortar for a while, and hit lot's of targets and "taking enemy ground".

and as for effectivness against the hizbolla, why even ring that up? a tank isn't supposed to be used as an anti-infantry vehicle. you want to tell me the us tanks that were blown up in iraq by terrorists there were effective? not really.

unfortunatly we need it. it's hard for people in the us to understand what it's like to be constantly in danger. i'd love peace. however, it's not that easy. and yes we're good at designing a lot of stuff. (conroe for example).

Rockets won't hurt the newest Merkava. There aren't a lot of tunnels in Lebanon. And Israel and the US both have nuclear ordinance designed to be fired from a 105mm cannon. Glass Lebanon, one terrorist filled building at a time. :thumbsup:

Also, for some reason when I was down at yam hamelach I saw about 6 or 7 Merkava's being trucked down south.
They passed us on the highway.
They are huge.

I worked with a couple of IDF guys a few years ago. One of them showed me a video of a Merkava taking 3 direct hits from an RPG. The rounds did detonate (Russian RPG-7's are notoriously unreliable but when they work, they work), but none of them penetrated. The tank kept right on truckin', or tankin' as it were. It takes some special armor to defeat an RPG, and I don't mean bar armor. An explosively formed penetrator can penetrate many inches of steel, depending on the round.

Depends on the rocket/missile and where it hits.

The U.S. got rid of its cannon fired nukes a long time ago. Israel possibly could have them, but they've got ballistic missiles, so why bother?
