May I first ask how much WWF programming you've seen to make such an observant post?
Wrestling can be likend to a soap opera, a lot of cheesy acting.
These guys aren't hired for their acting, believe it or not. Their ability to do what they do comes from endless years of training and suffering. These guys' athleticism is well in the realms of a "real" athlete, and a lot of these guys do have a sports background.
N*Suck is cheesy pop culture that appeals to the lower intellectual end of the masses.
Because you don't like it, it's "lower intellect"? The production quality of Friends, the Simpsons, Conan, Leno, the Mummy 2, etc., does not show or require a high level of "intellect" to watch and enjoy. Do all these shows appeal to lower intellect as well then?
Its made to be popular, to appeal to the slovenly masses who are too lazy to go out and wrestle with their own friends, so they watch it with some bad acting mixed in on TV.
Uh okay, so is ER designed for people who didn't make it to med school, sitcoms and movies for people who aren't real actors, and sports for people who aren't pro athletes?
Doesn't mean the wrestlers are stupid (can you say you'd pass up that much $$$ because you don't agree with what you are doing, the smarter ones sell out)
That is just so very insulting to the guys that have sacrificed and have been injured so much it's ridicolous. You obviously have no clue what these guys do.
*These guys entertain, they enjoy what they do
*They're work schedule is like no one else's. They work nearly 30 days a month, 12 months a year, and on an average day 1 to 2 out of 5 guys are working hurt. Even on a good day, a wrestler with minor injuries gets thrown around in ways that'd alarm a football player.
*With only the WWF around, McMahon basically says to guys, "You're going to work for me for $100,000 a year, with no medical benefits, no med care, no insurance, no workers comp, and no guarenteed contracts..take it or leave it" And what insurance company would want to insure a wrestler?
*You'd have to REALLY love what you're doing to put up with all that crap
but the people who watch them on the other hand are the ones easily influenced by what's "in."
Pro wrestling has been around for over one hunrded years. It's been popular and a good business for about half a century. The wrestling boom took place in about the 80's. It drew PPV buyrates comparable to boxing. For many many years now, it has been at the top of the TV Cable ratings. If you consider that simply to be a "phase", then so be it..
