It is now possible to downgrade your firmware on the drive. If you are having problems with 1.21 or 1.00 this will take you back to the original firmware.

no way, you need a hacked firmware for that and thats what I was hoping this was when I opened it up.

Well we don't have a hacked firmware yet but I think this will speed it up. It means that when something goes wrong with a firmware in testing that they can put back a good firmware so the drive isn't dead.

Firmware hackers don't have the money to throw away by killing dvd-writers when something they wrote goes wrong. Hopefully we will have a hacked firmware in about a week or two.

no true....the only diff between 1.21 and 1.00 is that 1.21 is pickier about the media. 1.00 will let you burn some non-certified media at higher speeds.

Ummm 1.21 screwed up some burning on cheap media BUT burning at 2x or 4x requires the Media ID to be in the firmware. No media id in the firmware then there is no burning at 2x or 4x.

That is why some many people what a hacked firmware. That way we can add any media id we want.

well for what is worth, I have ritek G03's which I believe are 1x. I can burn them at 2x using Nero with v1.0

Ritek G03 media is actually pioneer approved 2x media. It is in the media tables of the firmware.

For a good explanation from the people that are hacking the firmwares look here

well that would explain it then..i was under the impression that it was 1x

edit 1: thnx for the link..its been a few days since ive been over there....im going to catch up on it now.
