Common sense and religion don't seem to play nice together but I think Jay has it right. The one part that stuck out to me is Jay's assertion that certain constructs of the 'church' and all religions in general have been installed as fear and control mechanisms. It was nice to hear someone in his position call it out for what it is.

He raises many good points about corruption in the church, and if christ's teachings were properly taught, there would be nothing to hate. It's stupid traditions and people using the religion to control people that make it a hated religion.

I can't see youtube at work, so I don't know how old the video is, but South Park covered this and said almost this exact thing.

It's so hilarious to see religions backpeddle and change their ways because as we advance technologically we disprove so much of the nonsense in their old texts.

Didn't bother to watch the video, but the problem (religiously) with this interpretation is that it's passive -- it does not set up that picking up the religion is imperative. Religions are psychological parasites so the measure of their injection vector in relation to the populations' susceptibility to that vector does have a direct bearing on the parasite's fitness. (The religion of, "My bum is green and glowing [honest] and you must do what I tell you it tells you to do," probably isn't going to get off the ground -- it will break on the population's psychological defenses. A religion must weasel its way in and then be able to avoid reality checks.)

So, while a good interpretation, it would pretty much spell the end of Christianity.

For anyone to really understand especially the old testament they need to do quite a broad bit of research. The jewish faith has probably the most research on this, yet Christians seem to want to make any facts they have some how falacies.

You also need to know the history and what was going on at the time of each event to truly understand it.

However, in the end most of what is canned and on the shelves today has been heavily meddled with along the way.

Does religion really bother people that much? I went to catholic schools in Edmonton for k-12 and religion was never a problem. I'm pretty sure I've heard religious people say "follow your heart" (think for yourself) when making choices.
