Just make sure you build a detached garage and concentrate on that. It's where you will end up spending most of your time 😉

underground garage, and its attached...lol

Have the basement finished!!! Use that owens corning stuff, it's soundproof and insulated. Set up a nice 6.1-7.1 surround sound system down there, with a projector to shine on the wall.

wow, no one here really knows of like cool, wicked sweet things to be found in homes or anything, desk setups, room setups, i dont know....im surprised

i connected virtually everything that could be connected to a computer in my last apartment... though all that really did for me was allow me to watch movies/listen to music from my computer on any TV/sound system in the place.

Oh and I also had several webcams up, displaying almost my entire apartment 24/7, but ditched those when I got a girlfriend. Might set that back up when I move...

Guy I know has his whole house wired for audio/video/lights/etc. Has an audio server in the basement and a 6 (I think) zone amplifier. So he can have 6 different audio queue playing at once and can go into any room and press a button to pick from whatever zone he wants. Also has the DVD changer, XBox, etc in the basement and wired into the cable system so he can just tune his T to a certain channel and watch a DVD or pick a different channel to play XBox, etc.

Check out domotics.

My dad has his office hooked up so that he can use his computer to adjust the temperature of any room, turn on/off the lights from any room, open doors to any room (every room can only be accessed with a security card) open/half/close the blinds in the rooms that have windows, control the volume of the speakers in any room, and I think that's it.

Wicked stuff.

Yea, pretty much.

We aren't in the US, but that's what it should be called there as well.

Originally, he was having the blinds to be closed when there was too much sun, and open when there wasn't enough sun. Also, he was going to get everything that is currently being done by the computer also be done by his phone, so you just text, for example, blinds open room [name], to a specific number, and it would happen. He could have set up the temperature in that way also, but I don't know why he opted out for that.

edit: check out wikipedia on an article for domotics. At the end, in the "Other links" section, there could be some useful links.
