Why was the kid being arrested?

“The initial call went out as a criminal trespassing in progress,” Carrillo said. “The officers arrived and were handling that when they encountered the suspect involved in the criminal trespass and from there the events you witnessed in this video unfolded and that is where we are at.”

No further details were released on what happened before the recording started or after the video ended.

Too often people with "issues" tend to migrate into law enforcement.
People with a chip on their shoulder, an axe to grind, some temper problem they look at law enforcement to act out. And most likely they also have a twisted love affair for guns.
So.... why not try the police force?

Local governments have a hard time finding qualified cops. It is a dangerous job. So these guys slip by and get hired that should have never been hired in the first place.
I think that is why they are fired so fast when they screw up.
For the bad cops, the department probably had their eye on them.
Was already aware of problems with the cop. Word gets around.
I doubt this type of thing comes out of nowhere. Or really surprised anyone else on the force.
But until some screwup like this happens, the bad cop got by and never faced the music.
Then, one day the shit hits the fan.
I guess this is the nature of law enforcement.
How can the department find qualified cops? Find good cops? Find people willing to risk their life that aren't already a little wack-o in the brain?
But at least when this kind of thing happens, the bad cop is removed fairly swiftly from employment.

Based on that article it sounds like a bunch of punk smart ass kids were giving the cop a hard time in addition to criminal trespass. I doubt they were “innocent” children.

The definitely deserved to have a gun pulled on them. If it went off well good riddance to poor rubbish.

Too bad these kids and others knowingly put themselves in harms way to be killed or shot. These kids initiated the incident and made it worse by harassing the cop.

Wtf. Cops arent wild animals that cant control their actions (or at least they shouldn't be).
Kids interacting with cops shouldn't ever be putting themselves in harm's way.

It use to be that people in the military would migrate into law enforcement jobs after their tours due to their discipline training in the military. That does not appear to be happening as much these days.

You placed quotes around the word "innocent". However, the important word is actually "children". "CHILDREN".

Let's enumerate their "crimes" that you have judged them "guilty enough to point a gun at":
1) Punk
2) Smart Ass
3) Giving a cop a hard time
4) Criminal trespass

Which of those "crimes" would have made you, if you were personally a cop in that position, so fucking scared that you would respond by aiming a loaded weapon at a child? Neither you nor this cop are responsible gun owners. Neither of you should be allowed to own a gun.

You are willing to accept pointing a gun at non-violent children because: "based on that article it sounds like some non-violent shit happened but I don't like those things so fuck the safety and rights of children." Get bent.

The cop seemed very frightened by the children yelling at him and standing too close.

Not only that but they have access to covert surveillance gear that they level against the population for whatever recreational purposes they deem fit. FL has spent millions upon millions of dollars hiding this gear all over the state and most people are oblivious to it. The wise man will pay close attention to the sensor packages mounted in the top mast of the phase 2 E911 towers.

"doing his job" = pointing his gun at unarmed 8 year-olds.

God damn you are pathetic.

Did you watch the video?

Edit: my bad, I missed that part. He should be disciplined or canned altogether for that.

Where did see that they were 8 year olds? The articles I've read indicate they are teens. If they were 8 year olds then the cop should be disciplined/fired.
