Awesome fireworks

Another incredible fireworks show... my wife, son, and I joined a bunch of friends and all kayaked/canoed to where they light them off...

Imagine being 50 yards from the barges in NYC where they light them off... right there on the water. You can feel every burst in the air, you're so close... Words can't describe it until you've actually been that up close. (in Olean, they actually launch them from the river dikes, literally 50 yards from where we were sitting, if not closer, and they angle them out slightly over the water, so they were directly overhead for most of the show.

wow....

I jsut came back from D.c., and although I ahd a decent time, the fireworks started too early (news said 9:30 and they started @ 9:| ) and they only lasted 30 minutes (i remember it being 45min years ago)

It was pretty cool though....we were exiting Federal Triangle and then suddenly " BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"

We were on pennsylvannia, and all the building and such amplified the sound like you wouldn;t beleive.....

I swear I was on a Navy Destroyer......

oh that was you? sorry for me and my friends taking shots at you for target practive :Q

My wife was amazed at how much louder they are when you're on the water right under them... Even sitting on top of the dikes on the other side of the river doesn't come close. I think our show was somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes long... It's definitely the best in the area - for at least 50 miles.

kayaking up-river back to the car was a pita... THEN, I had to fight through traffic to get to a boat launch down-river from the fireworks (where my son and wife waited for me.) It took me about 30 minutes to go 1 mile with all the traffic.

fantastic, did you happen to see the nyfd fireboat? (assuming this was the big NYC show) my sister was lucky enough to be on it.

Are you joking? (your profile isn't too revealing)... Someone did take a few pot shots at us with bottle rockets. Had they come really close, I'd have felt compelled to paddle to shore and smack them upside the head with a kayak paddle (just so the little kids watching would grow up remembering not to shoot bottle rockets at strangers... I would only be thinking of the children) 🙂

from a office building roof in the chicago suburbs we caught 20+ shows going on from a distance, was pretty cool

did you see them purposefully aiming at you? Might have been just shooting some off in a safe direction (water) and not seen you
