AWE64 Problem in Linux-Mandrake 7.2

Sorry to have to finally come down to asking for help. I have been trying the RTFM method ever since installing LM7.2 to get a leg up on troubleshooting why my AWE64 won't work for system sounds... or anything. I noticed in another thread it mentions running "sndconfig" from console mode so I tried that. Sndconfig appeared to work just the way it was supposed to but now the SB module doesn't even load correctly in Aurora. When I try to play any .wav file I get a series of clicks. I think what I am dealing with is a conflict with something else but being a beginner in Linux I need the basics to display what resources are assigned to what. HardDrake is not very informative... or maybe I just am not using it correctly. Is there a command I can use on the CLI that will give me the info I need?

Thanks for the help,

PCPilgrim
