what does the performance pack actually consist of? for $1600 I'd prefer to know exactly what they did, even if the work is covered under BMW warranty. i can get behind anything with a I6 though, some of the best motors around imo.

Increased flow of intake, tune, and slight change in exhaust programming. Oh yeah...and a new plastic engine cover and “M Performance” stickers (I kid you not...straight up VTEC awesomeness there...they will not be applied to my car).

DEFINITELY overpriced...but let’s be honest...so is the car. That $1600 (which included install and taxes on the part) was a discount...the MSRP was $1600 just for the parts (engine covers and stickers don’t come cheap you know).

35hp is pretty decent for just a tune and intake, if that's what it actually makes now. not sure it's worth 1600 but if it makes a bit more power, and it translates well to actual whp, then why not I suppose. 91 or 93 octane is what I'm guessing they mapped for...?

most cars don't benefit from an intake and a panel filter would suffice but on boosted motors a good intake can really help.

The car already states it requires 91...and that is what I have been putting in. I’m sure the tune makes that requirement even more important than it was before.

BMW tax. I’m a glutton for abuse apparently.
Sorry, I wasn't laughing at you; I was laughing with you. Considering the HP gain, that's pretty cheap price. I paid $650 for my used muffler just for different sound and that didn't add any HP.

No offense either way. I realize once I step into German car land, any sense of financial prudence on my part has already been left at the door.

tough to say, since a surface tune can't really change the compression ratio but it could optimize the timing and flow when coupled with a new intake.

+1. Wouldn't be surprised to see closer to 50hp gain at the wheels.

It wouldn’t surprise me the way it feels...but it is unlikely I would ever take it to the dyno to actually find out what it is putting out. Butt dyno is happy with the results. Actually seems even stronger a couple days in. I think the computer was reset with the tube and is now learning my driving style again.

yea they most definitely would have reset ECU after a remapping, especially on a turbocharged engine. 50whp would certainly be worth the 1600 but every dyno is a bit different so I'd just enjoy it, as you are.
