Awake at 5:30am with a knock at the door

I woke up this morning at 5:30am to hear a knock at the front door. Really, it was our three dogs that woke me up -- our bedroom is all the way in the back of the house and you can barely hear the door or the doorbell (which is pretty sad to begin with -- you can barely hear it on the other side of the door).

My gf and I agreed to just ignore it and go back to sleep, figuring that nothing good can come from an unexpected wakeup call. However, the knocking continued for about 10 minutes further until we decided to see what was going on.

It was the police looking for someone that neither of us had heard of (and we've rented this house for ~6 months now; the landlords have owned for 2 or 3 years).

This is about the point where the story peters out -- I couldn't go back to sleep and I have to get up at 6:30 anyway, so I decided to sneak some ATOT in. Now I'm wondering why they'd be at the door that early -- to take someone into custody? I seem to remember one of the officers saying "we have something for <person's name>." I don't think that they'd come by that early in the morning to drop off a guy's wallet. 😉

Ah, well, I'm glad I went to bed early last night.

Well about 10 minutes ago woke up in the living room of my apartment hearing something rattling, I then realized it was the door, somebody was trying to get into my apartment (couldn't be anyone I know, I just moved to a new town). They kept trying and trying, like they were trying to pry it open or something, well I get up and look out the peephole, and say "hey what do you want" and the man said, "I'm here to paint the apartment your moving out right" Whew, "no, I said, I just moved in", then he hauled away all this power painting equipment...... I was relieved, I thought something messed up was getting ready to happen.

🙂

Yeah, that would be creepy. We're both lucky that they weren't nutcases, I think.

I'm starting to wonder if they didn't go into my backyard. We have a chainlink fence w/ a latch that isn't locked and the latch wasn't fully closed this morning. I *always* latch it, although it's possible that my gf didn't close it all the way. Plus we thought we heard whispering or something right after the cops left, but maybe that's just paranoia after the fact. 😉

Dude, that sucks. Getting woken up early is bad enough, but by the Police... ugh.

Yeah, it sucked b/c Sting kept staring at me (couldn't resist 😛).

But yeah, at least it wasn't for my gf or me. I'm guessing that it was for the landlord's previous tenant (she lived in the house but rented the backroom) and I *think* that I might've gotten some junk mail for someone by that name, but it's been so long that I might be misremembering.

Now I just have to keep an eye out for black helicopters.

Knuckle sandwich? Kick in the groin? Large bag o'drugs? Arrest warrant?
