ARRGGGG!!! what should i chose?

i like to.......
listen to mp3s
play games
listen to cds
watch movies
encode cds to mp3s occasionally

currently using an Awe64 ISA. I have to get rid of this thing. I use a pair of altec lansings with a sub box. Was thinking of buying a Sound Blaster 16 PCI. gee, why would i need more than this?

Any suggestions?

My friend uses an AW744Pro and loves it.
I plan to get one.
DM also uses one and he seems to like it quite a bit.

(The AW744Pro and AW744 differ by the Optical cable only i believe).

On the AOpen website it says

<< * S/PDIF 0.5V / TTL level input, OPTIC output >>

. I need optical S/PDIF out for recording to my MD player, is what they mean by optical that?

Yep, I use it with my sharp 722.

I like the card, spdif input from CDROM also, all around good card especially for the price.

I just ordered a Hercules Fortissimo II. It looks to be a REALLY nice card w/ optical in and out and everything. Not much word from people actually using it though. I'll let you guys know.

MGM: Where'd you get the Fort2?

I've been eyeing that card myself, it's got the 4 channel version of the chipset used in the Santa Cruz and GTXP...4 channel's all I need, plus dedicated headphone jack and Optical I/O. And it's cheaper than the Cruz. Looks to be a killer card....

But I thought it wasn't available yet?

noriaki - it uses a different CS chipset that i believe differs in more than only lacking the 3rd channel...

regardless, good card for the price, but i'm sure the AW744 can be had for less and offers nearly the same options..(except dedicated headphone jack)...guess it depends on the speaker set-up you're using..

aren't the optical to coaxial converters a ton of money?..curious.

I ordered mine from Herc's online store (just go to their website and they've got plenty of tech spec links and links to buy). I just went there and they had it for sale. Only 1 other company on pricewatch has it but w/ shipping Herc's site came out cheaper. I don't actually have the card yet (I put it in my rig section just to change the SBLive that I sold), but it should be here within the next few days (hopefully. UPS screws up a lot).
