I have yet to pull off the heatsink to see if it is 1.6 or 2.0ns mem. Everywhere I look I see people hitting 600+ on the memory no prob. WTF? I suppose I should be happy. I can run it @520/540 with no problem (artifacts and 3dMark). The core can obviously do XTPE speeds (540/590) but my mem is sucking it hard. Would having the 2.0ns memory make that much of a difference?

Went from 4361/9415 (3DMark05/3DMark03) on stock everything to 4969/10344 after 16 pipeline unlock to 5991/11906 at the X850XT Speeds (520/540) On a Athlon64 3200+ @ 2.5GHz... I am happy but still want to know why I cant get more out of the memory

You could try cranking up the AGP voltage a bit if your MB supports it, also it might help to place a big fan blowing directly on the card to cool the RAM more, but somtimes thats just the way it goes.. just because a lot of those cards make it to 600 ddr doesn't mean they all will.

Sounds like you got the 2.0ns stuff. I don't think cranking up the AGP voltage would do anything for him because he's running NF4 Ultra/pci-e motherboard. :p

Your 3dmark 05 score seems a little low for that card with the extra pipes unlocked though. Especially with that venice @ 2.4 or 2.5 I would think you'd at least get 6500 or better. Just built a system for a friend and it gets 5,800 with a HIS X800GTO @ 570/600 (12pipes) and a Sempron 64 2800+ @ 2.4ghz.

I haven't heard of a GTO2 with anything but 1.6 ns memory. Some, like my first GTO2 (which had other problems too), will not reach those high memory clocks some have reported. Even my second card's RAM didn't want to go above 600MHz. I don't know your setup, but cooling may be a factor and you might want to experiment with additional airflow as an earlier poster said. Also, the thermal paste application on my cards was substandard (huge glob on the gpu and almost nothing on the RAM) so you might improve performance by reapplying.

Actually overclocking gives a bigger boost than unlocking pipes. My stock x800gto got 4500 in 3dmock05, but that was with a A64 @ 2.61 ghz and fast, expensive ram. Then, still with just 12 pipes, I Oc'd it to 570/570 and it got 6000 even. Then I unlocked pipes, and with the same OC it got 6700. In your case you should be getting at least 6000 if you're hitting xt pe speeds, but your score is pretty close anyways. Did you close all the other apps when benchmarking? Also, make sure you go to the display control panel, and under d3d and ogl settings set everything to default (even if it looks like it already is).

If this card cost you less than an XTPE, then yes, you should be ecstatic!!
I would be.

Thanks for all the replies. Gonna try some more thermal paste on the ram... there was just about nil on em when i took the cooler off. Double-checking CATALYST Control Center settings... havent touched any settings but will reload defaults. Will report back on the memory speed tomarrow :)

Course i really havent tweaked my system memory yet as well. Running @ SPD for now so the results are consistent.
