Argh I've only had it for 2 months, and I know that it wasn't there when I got the monitor.

Now I hear Planar has awesome customer support. Would they RMA it for me? I'm also having problems with the USB hub, if the monitor goes into power saving the stuff on the USB hub built in stops working and will not work even when I come back out of power saving.

Also what is the RMA process? Do I have to pay shipping back? Do they do advanced RMA?

No, a few dead pixels are considered acceptable believe it or not.

I am quite aware of that, but I rember when ppl first got their monitors. Planar would RMA them if they had a dead pixel or two. Argh its not that noticeable but now that I see it its annoying as heck

There are also other criteria besides the number of dead pixels, such as their location. I'm not sure if the general guidelines are different for LCDs vs CRTs, but to give you an example, on Viewsonic's PF900s, they would allow 1-2 within a circulur viewing area of "x" radius measured from the center, then up to 5-7 dead ones in the rest of the screen area outside that circular area. Can't remember the radius they quoted, might have been 4 inches ...

I'm sure most companies use something similar, and most also give a little leeway here and there on a case by case basis. But I do doubt many would replace a unit with only one dead pixel. You'd have better luck if it had been bought in a B&M store, many places will take back monitors with bad pixels. I know MicroCenter and Staples both do. ;)

I never knew dead pixels could "develop"........ I had always thought the ones that were there were only ones already there right out of the box, and that was it.

I had 1 bad pixel on my 18 inch planar, they had me exchange it through dell, but the woman did tell me even 1 bad was covered by warranty

The Planar warranty says they will ship you a replacement with prepaid label, you just pop the old one in the box and call for pickup
