First of all, a big thank goes to Red Storm. :D for recommending me the app so that I can copy video files directly from PC to iPad 2 without conversion.

However I am getting some weird problem with playing 1080i video clips. They are an uncompressed 1920 x 1080i MPEG2-TS files. It plays, I get sound and video, but it appears to have de-interlacing problem. It's similar to what you see in the sample picture below:

It gets worse when there is motion. It *seems* as if de-interlacing feature is not incorporated in the app (AVPlayer HD).

Also, the video is chopped in the bottom portion of the screen with artifacts.

I looked for the settings and did not find anything about de-interlacing. Does anybody else have same problem? Anyone has fix to this? :)

Better contact the developer, you usually can't do much with an App outside of the settings, especially if you don't want to mess with the source file.

I end up just Handbraking stuff I keep on my iPad (which are not movies, mostly FLV porn)

Thanks for the suggestion. I will contact them and see if they have a fix for this. Other than deinterlacing problem, it plays the 1080i video quite well.:D It hardly stutters (not to the point where it annoys me) and the sound does not seem out of sync. Oh dear the PQ is amazing though. It's solid.

I tried Handbrake a while back and did not like it at all... it seems hardly effective in anything. I tried converting to MP4 format and the files would not be recognized by iTunes. Plus, I too am not a fan of converting / compressing stuff.

As for the porn part, thanks for the remind. I will try putting some on my iPad 2. I almost forgot about that.():)

De-interlacing HD is just about the hardest (non-3D) video playback task possible. My Nvidia GT210 GPU can play every pure Blu Ray rip I have, but ask it to de-interlace HD streams and it fails completely. I had to upgrade to a near gaming GPU to have enough stream processors to do the task.

I guess what I am saying is that you are expecting too much out of the iPad 2.

I understand what you're saying.. It is a good point you brought up. But I don't have this issue with my 7-year old sony laptop. It has nVidia Geforce Go 7400 onboard controller. It has 1280 x 800 display and when I run the infamous Media Player Classic, or VLC player, it has trouble deinterlacing 1080i file. If I change the deinterlacing setting in the options it deinterlaces it, but plays very choppy. Here is the kicker, if I run it with Elecard MPEG Player (which is not an open source, costs me $20~ 40 for a license) it de-interlaces it beautifully, on top of that there is no frame drop. It plays so smooth that I'm watching a 60 fps video. This is how I can tell software playback plays important roll... I don't mind paying money for the app for iPad 2, but I can't seem to find one. Problem is, I don't know where I need to go. Too many apps out there. And I don't even know if this exists at the moment.
