Guess I'd have to read into it, but I am not understanding how if it is on a platform (required app), how is it DRM free? (for some reason the video won't play)

It's an optional extension of GoG which has shown itself to be a pretty awesome company to me so I'll at least give it a go and happy to take a free game

Unlike Origin, where I don't give a crap how many free games they offer.

That's the thing, it's not required. You can still download the games manually or with the downloader, but if you want auto-patching and other features, the client is there.
