Avoid MSI 785GM-e95 motherboards for those buying it with AMD 1055t CPUs

Common sense is all that is needed to know that a BIOS update would be needed.

It can be a pain if you don't have (access to) a supported CPU to perform the update.

Definitely. I didn't have that problem as my Mobo/Chipset is very new and had X6 Support from the Factory(or possibly the Dealer Updated it), but if it wasn't I'd be in a bind. I find it odd that the X6 doesn't work without the proper BIOS, you'd think that it would function in some capacity, but I suppose it doesn't.

Back to OP: As a matter of principle I avoid MSI. They make good stuff, generally, but back in the Socket A days I had one MSI die on me within 18 months and watched as my Bro had to service numerous PCs he had Built/Sold that all had dead MSI Mobos. Likely just a bad stretch for them, but there are other Mobo Manufacturers out there with a much better track record so I see no need to take any risk on them.

I'd say you're not very tech savvy if you don't realize the latest cpus might require a bios update on a less than current mb. I've had to do it many times.

Only bad MSI mb I ever had was an oem from Geeks for an Opteron. Been using 2 of their 790 boards now for a while now with no problems. Have used 12-15 others in the past.

yeah well if you don't wanna pay a bullshit restocking fee, then you should be thanking not fingering me. Bastards only have 1 year warranty too, instead of 3 years like gigabyte. just watch, these am3 mobos are gonna get a plethora of bad reviews on newegg.

Anycase if anyone has a flashed mobo for <100$ and are willing to hold up the warranty (in which i'll have you ship the item back to the mfg for me if it's ever defective), hit me up.

Amd can suck a nut for not giving these mfgs a 1-2 month window for them to provide architecture instructions for them to update their mobos.

How about i piss on the motherboard's box so they get the most from their restocking fees?

//end rant.

I can see that disclaimer on the box now:

"Attention: User may require BIOS update in order to support the new 1055T X6 CPU, which has not been announced as of this printing and won't be shipped until...well we won't know when it will ship because it hasn't been announced. This won't help anyone who purchases the board online because you can't see this disclaimer from the internet, anyway. Thank you and we hope this utterly useless and pointless disclaimer will be of some assistance, in spite of being utterly useless and pointless."

I always go on Ebay or some other discounter like Geeks or StarMicro and buy the cheapest older CPU that is compatible with every current socket. e.g. Semprons and Celerons for $20 each.

Problem of needing to have a supported (older) CPU for BIOS flashing solved.

I don't currently have any LGA 1366 or 1156 CPUs, but then I don't have any plans to buy a motherboard that uses either socket in the near-immediate future, either. Eventually, I'll pick-up the cheapest used 1366 or 1156 CPUs I can find just for this purpose.
