Since the full body irradiation has been enacted I've been given the full patdown 4-5 times now in the last year as I always get magically selected for it and I always opt out. So far I've heard some hilariously creative lies for trying to get me into the body scan, like, 'it uses no radiation whatsoever when it operates.' Protip: don't joke about the patdown, these rentacop fucks will just delay the entire process if you do, potentially making it so you cant fly. I almost missed a flight because I asked the guy for a cigarette after that romp where he physically grabbed my dick and ran his hand the full length down it. Fuck the stupid security theatre bullshit and fuck government sanctioned violations of the constitution. I fly as infrequently as possible now and opt to drive places if I can. -- white looking latino with foreign last name

I travel on average 50,000 miles a year by air within the USA and I've never been patted down (been traveling heavily for about 5 years or so).

Just empty all your pockets, take off belt (not really necessary unless you have a big buckle) and take off shoes. As I'm sitting in the security line I put everything into my bag ahead of time except for my driver's license and ticket.

It's way less bad here than the states at least based on what I hear. I've only been through the process twice though here in Canada. (get to my destination, and go back home). There's no anal probes or anything like that, no strip searches, the only thing you have to do is walk through a metal detector and remove all metal items while baggages go through the scanner. Really, the less stuff you bring the easier it should be. Don't bring oddball stuff like electronics or anything that could possibly house a bomb. Bring clothes, that's it. Even in the states I'm guessing if you have only clothes it should be easy enough to get through. It's the people that try to bring laptops and other stuff like that... leave it at home, you can survive a couple days without a computer.

I'm brown, I've NEVER been randomly selected, you know why?

I pack according to TSA rules and I'm usually dressed in blue jeans, buttondown/polo shirt and a blazer carrying my laptop + carryon.

Look like a business traveler and know what you're doing and where you're going = never have a problem.

If you don't want to fly because of the TSA rules then shit luck on you for not having fun.

FYI, all major US airports are scanner only now. You can opt out but you will get the pat down instead. I've only had to do the pat down once when I left my knee brace on when going through the body scanner.

I flew domestic a few years back, they make you take off the shoes to scan, but other than that, not too much more. considering they got so many passengers, doubt they can do this very thoroughly.

The only scanner I opt out of is the backscatter radiation ones. I prefer no ionizing radiation no matter how small the doses. I'll get enough on the flight.

The millimeter wave I'll go through.

Now for patdowns, it's just a typical patdown. Not sure why people get so uptight about it. It's like you've never had someone touch you before. I guess my time in the Marines and dealing with probing and all that with medical changes my perspective.

The Irish are bigger dickheads than the TSA are anyways. I hated flying into Ireland.

I fly quite a bit and I've never had a problem with the TSA, never even been patted down. We walk through and go on our way.

I bring all kinds of "oddball stuff" i.e. electronics, and I've never had a problem.
It seems to me that 99% of what you "know" comes from "I heard this from...".

I don't fly international but I fly about 156,000 times a month in California. It's bothersome/time consuming/pain in the ass, but I haven't been molested. Not that I haven't tried.

It's pretty much the same no matter where you are. Yeah the US seems worse than other countries I've visited recently but I sure wouldn't pay a few hundred bucks to be slightly less bothered.

Dude the thorough pat down is FREE. Why wouldn't you opt for that service over the scan?

OP has a small package and is afraid of the scanner.

I went through the Orange County airport (John Wayne) last month, and everyone now goes through a quick scanner....however it does not make out any bodily features, it shows the same generic figure, and highlights any abnormalities. This avoids them having to have a pervert hiding in an off-site booth who can see all the goodies.

But then again I am white and upper-middle, so maybe I have it easier ;)

This country is too PC to do what Israel does and profile the shit out of people....instead we have to pretend that "everyone is a suspect" and finger grandma just to prove we arent after Islamic radicals.

Best thing you can do.

For me, I don't really care about the security itself. The long lines suck. What gets me is the idiots who don't follow the "rules" and cause delays. I fly frequently out of smaller airports (Hawaii inter-island) and things like tourists with bags of sand can mean the difference between making your flight and waiting in line while the ONE SECURITY CHECKPOINT shuts down so all the TSA agents can freak out about some stupid tourists' junk.

I would not recommend wearing a tea towel on your head. And i would also not recommend that you scream "Allah Ackbad" through the security screening point.

Might be different in Europe, but doubt it.
most provide some soap and shower gel but the shower gel might be enough only for like 1 shower or max 2.
Toothbrush only in 4+ stars hotels usually.
