From the avocado website:

<< California avocados are nutrient dense in dietary fiber, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium and folate. In fact, they are one of nature's most nutrient dense foods. Precisely because of these nutrients, avocado-rich diets are ideal for babies, kids, sports enthusiasts and diabetics. >>

Do not eat too many of them because they are high in fat. It may be good fat but too much will equal more calories.

Considering the amount of saturated fat North America does consume, a few avocados shouldn't hurt;)
They are so delicious. We eat them often at home. Great salad garnish, appetizer or side dish too. I like them drizzled with lemon juice and salt and pepper. MMMMMMMM!!

In spanish they're called Aguacates.

<< they have a hideous taste, so they must be good for you >>

Ya think? To me they are delicious - but - they do fall under the category of easy to get a bad tasting one. If you try to eat them too early or too late - yuk! If they are bruised - ugh! Just get a bad one for some unknown reason - blech! ;)

BTW aren't there 2 types (at least) of avocados? The one that is smallish, ready to eat when it very dark/black? And the larger one that stays green? One is supposed to be healthier, which one?

yes they are either really gross or really flavorful. i've gotten used to the taste and I love it. i think they are pretty fatty and oily though.
