.avi's no longer showing video

what would cause this? i have many avi's and i can no longer play them. doesnt matter what player i use, quicktime, ms, IE, winamp. they all will play sound but no video.

any ideas?

They might be encoded in Divx. Did you try installing Divx first?

Don't install DivX. FFDShow is MUCH better. Get the alpha build from http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net...tiki-view_articles.php

If you already installed DivX, uninstall it first. You don't need that crap.

video codecs are very prone to being mixed up and FUBARed. get g-spot to identify the codec u need and install it if you dont have it... otherwise run codec cleaner utility of some sort to straighten it out.

Agreed. FFDshow for decoding, Xvid for encoding.
