Avira Free installation - Disable Windows Defender... reenable after installation?

I'm working on my sister in law's Vista computer and I didn't see an AV, so I installed Avira Free Personal. It had me turn off Windows Defender and Active Protection in order to install. I turned that stuff on again after installation. Is that the thing to do or should I turn it back off. I'm leaving town in one hour, so need the answer now (well, it would be easier to reconfigure now than over the phone). Thanks.

Well, absent any input I'm disabling WD again and leaving for the airport... She's got Avira Free 10 running.

I always leave Defender enabled. It probably doesn't matter much either way though.

I left it disabled, as I said, and left town. The brief googling I did turned up a thread or two and a few posts suggested that (at least for earlier versions of Avira and Defender) it was imperative to not have both scans programmed for the same time intervals. I didn't have time to mess around with that, and just disabled Defender.
