Avira Antivir Free, upgrade offers Premium Free

Is this a scam, a way or trying to get me to pay for the premium version eventually? When I downloaded the latest version (10, and I've been running the free version for something like a year) I get this message:

Has anybody taken them up on this offer? What are the advantages/disadvantages/issues/etc.?

I don't know. My IE went haywire and I had to kill it and restart and I lost the page. I didn't notice anything about "Trialpay" on the page, but I didn't inspect it real closely. I saw the offer a few weeks ago as well. 😕 I didn't spring for it then, just downloaded the latest version of AV Free (ver. 10). Haven't installed it yet on any of the 3 machines I have running Antivir.

You got that notice just from downloading the latest version?
I didn't see anything like that when i D/L'ed a couple of weeks ago... maybe it's something new???

You did get it from the Avira site?
