Uses FH (Frequency Hopping) so it is limited speedwise. I think it claims 2 Mbps. I read an article on Zdnet a while back that said it was problematic and did not approach the advertised speeds. Frequency hopping is used on alot of slower wireless LAN's. You want direct sequence 802.11b. 11 Mbps, but I havent seen a home consumer product out there yet, although Dell was going to put out an Aironet Access Point designed for 10 users but when Cisco bought Aironet, they said forget it. Aironet had given them a price that was too low for Cisco's taste. There are a few Dell basestations out there but they do not have stock. That product shipped for about 300 bucks. Around 700 bucks more than just about all 802.11b Access Point products, give or take. The Mac Airport uses the Lucent chipset, and will talk to most/all 802.11b client NIC's. You can buy the Lucent Wavelan Turbo 11 meg cards for 200 to 300 bucks or the Cisco card for around 250 or less, depending on where you buy them. The Airport is also designed for 10 users or less, but I have talked with some competitors that have them taking 25 associations at once with no reported problems, although I am skeptical.
