AVI video Crashed

Ok, so I started getting these system crashes recently. At seemingly random points in time while viewing .avi files I get full-on system reboots. No warning or anything. Other times it just freezes up. And it seems to be any .avi file, no matter the codec. I have pretty much ruled out a software issue altogether, as I have completly reinstalled everything (Including Windows, I even did a low-level format once with disktools for good luck) several times now in an atempt to correct this.

I've used several players too, WMP, VLC (the best player out there) and several others. I've tried several different hard-drives with no luck. So I'm thinking its a video card problem. But I JUST bought this 9800 Pro 128 (AGP 8x) like 2 months ago.

I have a stable, home built PC with all brand-name componets. I've patched and updated everything I can think of. Mobo drivers, Vid drivers, codec packages, windows is fully up-to-date also. There is no spyware or viruses on my pc (besides the fact that tis installation has been running for about 6 hours).

AMD 1800+
512MB Corsair PC 3200
Albatron KMD18Pro II (It was cheap, but tom's said it kicked butt)
WD 100 GB (8MB Cache) System Drive
Maxtor 160GB (8MB Cache, SATA 150) Storage (Where the vid files are)
ATi 9800 Pro 128

Temps at Idle:
CPU Temp: 46C
Mobo Temp: 40C

Voltages at Idle:
+12: +11.98
+5: +4.92
-5: ...
-12: ...

Anyone got any ideas?

P.S When did ATi stop their weekly driver updates? The latest I can find is from June

Do those steps, and we'll get ya fixed up. I especially would like the mps reports & minidump files. 🙂

Alright brother, I've got everything collected. I was gonna send it to you, but your profile is locked.

Mini Dump:

Mini072504-06.dmp

MS Report

Let me know if you need anything else. And in advance, let me thank you for your help.

Update your SI3112r.sys driver. See if the issue is resolved.

Module[178] [C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SI3112R.SYS]
Company Name: Silicon Image, Inc.
File Description: Serial ATA RAID miniport driver
Product Version: (1.0:0.0)
File Version: (1.0:0.50)
File Size (bytes): 97408
File Date: Wed May 12 14:01:18 2004

appears to be causing the issue.

Note that what I assume is a counterpart driver:

Module[179] [C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SIWINACC.SYS]
Company Name: Silicon Image, Inc.
File Description: Windows Accelerator Driver
Product Version: (1.0:0.8)
File Version: (1.0:0.8)
File Size (bytes): 10240
File Date: Wed Oct 15 11:28:16 2003

is a lot older, which seems odd. Can you just do a general update on the SI 'stuff'?

Another question: Does this happen in safe mode?

Remove the two dumps you sent me, and let's see what happens, and if new dumps are made, in safe mode and with newer (or different) SI drivers.

Another good test is to move the video files to another drive (on the PATA controller) and re-test.
