I downloaded a movie and I'm trying to watch it but when i hit play the entire movie plays black and theres no sound. Is this because of compression or what?

Any help would be great.

Once you have the Codec's and " The Playa " installed reboot and try the movie in both the most updated Media Player and Real Player... if it does'nt work in either the file must be F.U.B.A.R.

I can play everything in either one or the other

duh.. download and install the DIVX 3.11alpha codec. Install this over the 4.XX divx ones (i.e, don't ask the installer program that comes with 4.XX DIVX to play back 3.XX material and install 3.11a after).

This may be a file encoded with one of the earlier divx codecs which uses a hacked version of the windows media audio codec. The microsoft one wont work it and neither will the other DivX or MP3 codecs.

Installing the DivX 3.1 based codec might help as this includes the old hacked MS audio codec.
