ive had vista a little over a week now. i like it. i had a movie file from my canon camera (.avi) that i started tinkering with in windows movie maker. i saved the project. i moved the file to a different drive and movie maker has an option to re-link. so i do but it crashes. i try many times. crashes. i put the file back where it originally was. crashes. i try re-importing it. crashes. i try a different avi file. crashes. if i go click on it in explorer, it plays fine. i go check some other avi's and they wont import. they wont play and wont generate a thumbnail in explorer. these i can see maybe being a codec. but the ones from my camera worked in movie maker the other day. and they play just fine. i tried unchecking the two codecs listed in movie maker options (avi and nero mp4 or somethin) and no luck. any thoughts?

Nero screwed up my codecs in Vista beyond belief, similar issues as you but more than just .avi, to the point I had to reinstall. It will be a long time before I do Vista+Nero again.
