.avi file (divx) won't play with wmp, but it will in VirtualDub. ??

I've got the divx codecs and it's the only movie I've ever tried that didn't work. I wonder why it will work in virtual dub, Sonic Foundry's video editor program can see it as well, but wmp and other regular movie files choke on it.

Did you get the complete file, or just part of it? WMP doesn't play it unless you have the whole thing, but VirtualDub can play it even if you only have part of the file.

I would guess (again) that you don't have the entire .avi file. VDub (and your other prog I'm guessing) can read incomplete .avi files. Unluckly in WMP the files need to be downloaded in their entirety. Hope that helps

Perhaps not.. but is there a way to edit it so it does become a "full" file?

Open it with VDUB and resave it. Choose "direct stream copy" under video settings so you don´t reencode the video (check that it says the same under audio too).
