avi/divx/wmv quality on newer matrox cards

i remember hearing matrox cards up to g400, while being excellent 2d desktop performers, lacked any x-y interporlation in video, thereby producing jaggy video playback. then all this talk of ATi having best DVD iDTC support or whatever...
did they change anything with their newer g- line of cards (e.g. g450, 550)? parhellia is completely out of budget, best i am hoping for is g450.
