avgserv.exe = Virus/Spyware?

I noticed my PC got extremly slow, so I went to check tak manager and on performance tab CPU usage figure was constantly on 100%. the process taking all that power is called avgserv.exe and I was able to close it but I after restart it came back.

Is that some kind of a virus/spyware?

EDIT: I double checked and this file is a part of my AVG AV program. whay is it acting like that?!

I think you are mistaking avgserv.exe with avserve.exe that is indeed attributed to Sasser, but I will double check just to be sure. I already installed the proper MS patch for Sasser when it came out. I also used a Symantec tool to search for it and it came up with nothing back then.

What I really did, was to delete the file and it never came up again nore did I get any error messages concerning it.

Now everything seems to be normal again...

It probably was doing a scheduled scan at the time. When the console is minimized, it won't show the scan.
