AVG or Avast?

I'm never used AVG, but I hear that Avast has better detection rates whereas AVG has a smaller footprint. Personally, I prefer AntiVir.

I use AVG Free on all my home PCs (4 of them), and it works great for us. I tried Avast and didn't like it for some reason I can't remember now.

Anyone think one is better than the other? Or is there an even better one that those two?

Kaspersky 6.0

Which unfortunately is not free. Spy Sweeper's good for its purpose too, but it's also not free.

I have both running on my computer for the best protection.
Probably not the best idea.

Been running AVG for years, small footprint and it gets the job done. What more could you want?
Anti-Vir has better detection rates last I checked and is probably equally light.

I had Avast for a while and I didn't like it - the program was slow and bloated. I tried AVG for a short while before my Windows corrupted and it seemed alright. I also had kaspersky for a little while and didn't have much of an opinion for it.

The most recent version of Anti-Vir is greatly improved interface-wise, as is Kaspersky 6.

not to high jack this thread, but what a good site for a free virus scan/clean without installing anything on the computer. I used to go to Trendmicro.com, but too much non sense with them now.

I suppose I skipped over the topic summary. However Kaspersky is free for 30 days. 😛

I ran AVG with version 6 and then when it was no longer supported I tried 7 and it wouldn't work correctly so I had to find a different antivirus.

I tried Antivir and it found stuff that AVG didn't pick up :Q so I've been using it since.
The interface is different now but it still seems to be pretty good with a small install and memory usage. I give it 2 .
