I use AntiVir 7.

They've fixed the lock ups that occurred when AntiVir 7 first came out.
It auto updates everyday.
I haven't seen the ad for at least a week, so maybe they've turned it off.

I have used both Antivir and AVG. Either one is a good product, but I prefer Antivir because it seems to have a better detection rate, doesn't use much memory, and the interface has been refined in version 7. Autoupdate works fine, but the ad to upgrade is still a nuissance. Whatever antivirus you have, it is still a good idea to clean temp files regularly and use an online virus scanner like Housecall (trendmicro.housecall.com) just to make sure you are virus free. 🙂

I updated anti-vir 7 def today and there is not ad. I hope they turn it off. And how do I get anti-vir to automatic update?

It'll just do it on its own, which is quite annoying IMHO, because I can't find a way to turn it off. Its not that bad unless I'm gaming, which it can sometimes minimize my game and interupt my play - of which then its only annoying if I'm playing online.

The ad isn't all that bad, but I'll be honost and say I prefered AntiVir when I had to update it myself and had no ad popup. Granted it only pops up after an update process, which is acceptable, however since I don't choose when or if it updates, I don't choose to get the popup which whats annoying about popups.

I've been using AntiVir for over a year now and it's been great at keeping my rig(s) running clean. I had some problems with version 7 when it was first released, but like several of you have said already, it's been working great for a week+ now. It updates once a day.

I let Kerio Personal Firewall create a rule to block the ad when it automatically updates, so no more ad for me.

Hi

Rottie, If you go to the "Scheduler Tab" you can right click on the Daily Update and edit the job to update daily, weekly or at interval.

bunnyfubbles, under the same options you can set the display mode to invisible so it doesn't interfere with your online game.

Hope that helps.

As an AntiVirus, AVG and AntiVir are pretty much on the same level.

For years, I used AntiVir since I could Not stand the AVG constant pestering to upgrade to the Pro level.

Pity that the AntiVir guys followed the Kerio guys by thinking that adding pestering is an upgrade.

I still use AntiVir but starting to have second thoughts.

The amount of Junk mail that I get is staggering, every time I register somewhere it keeps growing, so AVAST mandatory registration is Not a solution.

LOL. I own Norton AntiVirus, may be it is time to get an additional 256MB RAM, forget of all the Quasi free, and go back to Norton.

I like to try out Avast since it has more options, so how it's the detection rate (that's the most important thing for me) compare to Antivir? Or is both equally the same?

Thanks.

AntiVir has very good Trojan detection, many other AntiVrus programs are not so sensetive to Trojan.

I tried AVG for a while, then went back to Norton corporate. It got too outdated though, and I don't have confidence enough in Norton to pay for the latest one.

The first edition of AntiVir 7 had a little installation glitch for me, but after I heard it was updated I've used it ever since. It's funny that some people haven't figured out how to change update options and such. Just open the main program (by clicking the systray icon for instance) and it's all right there, hmm...

For added confidence I use the Kaspersky online virus scan now and then. I also use Spywareblaster, Hijackthis, Adaware and CCleaner. Adaware is probably still a good idea, but I can't remember the last time it detected anything, as since I started using CCleaner a couple of years ago, I clear my caches so frequently that any minor data-mining cookies are gone before I notice. CCleaner is highly recommended for most users! It's not exactly part of an AV solution, but keeping the waters from getting so muddy with junk is a helpful part of watching your system.

I've used NAV and Spysweeper for quite sometime and haven't got any trojans, worms or malware.
The other freebies are good, but if you haven't notice, they have the pro "versions" at a special price subscription.

I've repaired and fixed many a computer when their subscriptions ended and with the owners lack of weekly scans (at least) were obvious.
People who forget to update and schedule to run scans automatically can only get what don't expect. Do it now or see us later. Its your choice.
