AVG antivirus is driving me nuts!!!!

Couple of days ago I started receiving popups from AVG telling me I have an infected file on my system and I should run a full scan to get rid of it. Fine. I run a complete scan and it finds nothing. I check for updates and turns out I do have the latest version. Tried to search by file name and can't find the darn thing. In the meantime popups keep coming in.

Any ideas?

if the online scan doesn't find anything, i would uninstall/reboot/reinstall AVG (or my new fav Avast!).

Avast? Going to look into it. Yep, I've only had AVG for a week and it's giving me the creeps already.

Let me know how it goes - I just installed AVG 2 days ago. Good luck...

i've used AVG for the last year or so, with no problems. I tried avast and didn't like the interface...just didn't seem as polished or something to me. To each his own I guess....good luck!

I'm not familiar with AVG but I've seen situations in other AV software where an infected file gets moved to quarantine and then you keep getting the notice of an infection but can't find/clean/delete the file. If there is a quarantine in AVG, try emptying it. Also use my sig to be sure the thing is actually running - klez, bugbear and some others will kill your realtime scanner, possibly explaining why you don't find the infection.

I have used AVG in the past too....a client we were working for had a mish mash of old virus checkers and they wanted a new one the same all round with a central server edition but weren't willing to pay too much. AVG fit the bill nicely and when it was installed, it picked up a variety of viruses all over the shop that the older (yeah some weren't up to date with virus definitions but some where) virus checkers did not.

It's not a bad program, but it certainly has room for improvement, I think clearing out the quaruntine is a good idea....does it refer to a particular file? whats the name?
