So I started a thread here about 2 weeks ago saying how sucky AVG was and threatened to return to Norton AV :). I was recommended to try Kaspersky. I'm using it right now and guess what? It suck too. It keep saying that bcmsmmsg.exe, a program related to my modem, is a Trojan and I should delete it. WTF? This process has been there ever since I got the computer. How the heck could it be a virus? If I delete it, how can I use my modem to get on the internet? So I'm really thinking of going back to Norton unless somebody can show me a way to make Kaspersky ignore the bcmsmmsg.exe in their autoscan.

You can open Kaspersky, click the Settings tab, and click Threats & Exclusions to exclude that file from scanning. What does Kaspersky say it's infected with? because it might indeed be infected. Viruses can infect executables, you know.

Test: try scanning a known-clean copy of the file from the modem's driver CD.

yea, do what mechBgon.........but as said also before on your older thread, try using Nod32. It has a high detection rate and scans really fast.

NOD32 is very good.

Uses very low resources.

Yes. Manually scan a good copy & the one KAV is reporting to see if there is a problem. If it's clean then just set KAV to exclude it.

I'm sorry, you are trying to argue that Kaspersky isn't good because it _MIGHT_ have reported a false positive? That's without even knowing if it is, in fact, a false positive...as mentioned he could easily have a real virus.

To the original poster, I think I was one of the many that suggested Kaspersky. So that we can possibly assist you further, can you tell us what version you are using? Are you on the trial? Pay? Pirate? v. 5 or v. 6 beta?

AntiVir IMO is the best free AV.
NOD32 IMO is the best nonfree AV.
