now i dont need a dvd player because i dont watch that many dvds and if i do its on my home compy. the widescreen is nice but i dont mind having the small screen. the only concern is the mobile athlon 64...now longhorn will be 64bit only so if i got the one with pent-m then no upgrade to longhorn for that. should i be worried about that? oh the other plus that i just realized was that the 3360 also has dual layer dvd burner...the 6240 doesn't. oh and the battery life...longer the better of course..

aright ill admit it...ive never owned intel in my life...i have always owned amd(at first thats just how it worked out...i didn't have a choice...but as time went on...i stuck with what i had been using...amd)...but the pent m is not bad from the benchies ive seen....but still scared...specially about the upgradability to longhorn....is this a legit concern....i know its all opinions here but i desperately need some thoughts on this...thanks for your help everyone 🙂

Right now you should buy a laptop that fits your mobile needs. If you need to take this on the go with you, the A64 notebook really won't cut the cake. Its big and has relatively poor battery life.
Also, I can't find the video card specs on either of these notebooks which probably means integrated POS. This could be an issue with Longhorn anyway.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about Longhorn; buy for what you need now. If you need thin & light, go with the Centrino. If you want a DTR, go with the A64.

They're very different laptops. If you want something portable that can be used for a full day of classes with a quick recharge at lunch (or for an entire airplane flight), go for the 3360. If you need some more power and/or storage space, or just want a big screen for watching DVD's, and don't mind lugging about more than twice the weight after you include the power adapter, go for the A64-based laptop.
Remember, it's not performance so much as usability. DTR's are all very nice, but they make no sense at all for taking notes in class.

thank you guys so much for your input. i decided to go with the 3360. not the 6240 or the 6210...i guess cuz of the weight issue...even though its only 2lbs more..that still adds up when lugging it through my classes from 9am to 6pm. plus the battery life is almost twice as much. and i guess ill worry about longhorn when it arrives...if anything, my desktop will be able to handle it. again...thanks you guys...i really appreciate it. 🙂

You should really like it. Feel free to make a thread when you get it and post your impressions; I think it will be very helpful to people considering Averatec

Thats a great idea. I think I will as soon as I get some time from work. But so far I have to say...I love it...it handles EVERY program I throw at it with such ease, and the best thing is that even after 4 hours of straight usage, NO part of this laptop gets hot...not even the HD, not the proc, not the ram, not anything...absolutely amazing.
