I have a box I've come into posession of which has the following in it:

Asus P4P800SE
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz socket 478 Northwood core
1GB Corsair Valueram
Winfast A340T 128mb video card (GeForce FX 5200)
Western Digital 250GB 7200rpm 2mb HDD
Zalman 1/2 aluminium 1/2 copper CPU cooler

The temp of the cpu hovers @ 32C (90F) while the motherboard sits pretty solid @ 34C(93F)

Is this supposed to be this hot? I really dont know what the average is for this cpu/motherboard and it SEEMS hot to me. I wonder if I need to refit the Zalman on this...

I haven't an Intel processor since the P3's, but 32C isn't hot at all. My current Opteron with a Scythe Ninja idles at 34C.

Pretty normal temps for having stock cooling. IIRC those temps are pretty much inline with my ol' 2gig celly.

If you are concerned though buy a cheap aftermarket cooler, those ole' stock 478 are worse then the cheapest aftermarket.

The CPU cooler isnt stock. Its an aftermarket cooler by Zalman. Its the half aluminium half copper cpu cooler.

I have a 2.4Ghz socket 478 that runs about 120 degrees F: stock heatsink, small form factor case with OK/decent airflow. (Antec Aria)

90 degrees is great, and is low like that because of the Zalman cooler.

I have a Zalman 9500 on a 3.2Ghz P4 that keeps it about that cool as well

at least you don't have the Prescott core (a.k.a PresHOTT) since they have been known to go way up in temps.

My Prescott P4 3.0GHz in an old IBM micro case with a tiny copper fin cooler runs at 65C idle and 80C load (F@H). That's 176F at load. HOTTTTTT!!!!!!!
