is $50,462??

http://www.cnn.com/2011/LIVING/06/06/paying.jobs.2011.grads.cb/index.html

This seems really high to me, even liberal arts/general studies majors are claiming to be over $50k.

I only graduated 5 years ago and most of the offers I saw were much less, and this was in the SF Bay Area where you'd expect salaries to be much higher, I would think that the rest of the US would see much lower numbers.

To any recent/new graduates are you seeing these kinds of offers?

That's extremely high, I wonder where these statistics come from. It's still the case that a lot of HR people won't really care where you did your undergraduate and are unwilling to give graduates from better schools, higher pay.

There's statistics and then there's lies.

Don't believe those numbers.

They have mouth breathers compiling these surveys.

if you've ever taken a statistical survey class in college, you'll see how easy it is to rip on even the most well thought out surveys

I read an article a few weeks ago stating it was under $30K, and a majority not even in the field of study.

As others have suggested, these stats are a joke. Go to the book store and pick up a Law School guide. Even now when almost everyone seems to be aware that new JDs eat Alpo, most law schools still report average starting salaries of $90k+ for their graduates.

Doesn't surprise me. I'll probably be in the same boat shortly if I can actually find a job.

Those categories are so general, it's hard to make any sense of the data.

It's like what is "human resources?" Are they talking about about operation specialist, compensation specialist, file clerk, trainer/developer, etc.

If you look at the California's Employment Development Department's statistics on the labor market, it's a lot lower. You can refine the search by job description and county.

Different fields - different salaries.

Different part sof the country - Different salaries.

Also, as shown in the Law college studies; the numbers get inflated by skirting the guidelines both for #s employed and salaries.

From my experience, plenty of people are hiring. It's just most college grads are shit-tastic.

Mine was a few sigmas above that last year, engineering. My ex is starting in a few weeks and is a fair bit above that too, in semi-engineering on the east coast.

I hate these statistics. If you use this as your bible, you are gonna cry when you get your first offer.

That said, the top half of the list is not that far off....

WTF, national average starting salary for a person with a BS in CS is 63K? I know some people with an MS in CS from ABET programs of tier 1 universities that make less than that starting out, take it they are living in areas with dirt cheap living expenses.

Blame the companies at Silicon Valley I guess... I know people that are making the following right out of college (2011 graduates):
Amazon's starting = $87k
Yelp = $78k
Google = $81k

EE?
Seattle Public Light = $56k-$60k
Intel = ~$56k-$70k,
Boeing = $50k-$60k

I'm surprised only getting $50k from Boeing.

What were your friends majors for Amazon/yelp/google? CS?
