Anyone know what the average salary would be for a programmer with 20-30 years of experience that works for a bank?

anywhere from $0.... all the way up to $10,000,000

since you gave us no info... (programmer of what? where? what company? 20-30 years of experience doing what??) ... i gave you an equally useless answer.

i would suspect someone with 20-30 years of PROGRAMMING experience.. would know what kind of salary to expect.

i'm an IT Analyst with 10+ years of experience... and i know what kind of salary to expect for myself.

The middle 50 percent earned between $52,640 and $89,720 a year.

There is a lot of age bias in the industry; but if you have that kind of experience and have kept your experience sharp you're a good find... usually though, by that time, you've gone into IT management

Median annual wages of these managers in May 2008 were $112,210. The middle 50 percent earned between $88,240 and $141,890.

I'd quit working for a bank. My friend got hired at a medical software company, started at $60k and expects to hit $90k this September doing the same job (programming), about 3-4 years later. He is 26.

$50,000,000/year if you are a really good programmer and skim some money off each bank transaction with your secret code.

Average means nothing. You need to look at a distribution chart.

Can you really still be just a developer after twenty or thirty years? Shouldn't you have moved up a little?
