Difficult question to answer.... I don't think there is an answer. I used to have an old Dell that had to have been 7-8 years old that worked fine if that helps...

How extensively did you use that Dell laptop? Anywhere in the neighbourhood of 8 hours/day? Also, have any dead pixels popped up yet?

I bought it when it was that old. There were no dead pixels.

the screen will last longer than your desire to keep the laptop. Don't worry about it. Just make sure you set your power saver to dim the screen / light when not using the computer. Supposely LCD burn-in is a thing of the past, but why take that chance.

The LCD itself should last quite a few years, but in my experience using company laptops, the connection from the motherboard (?) to the LCD can be vulnerable. I assume past users did not use those laptops carefully.

really depends on the quality/build of the laptop. I have a HP P166 laptop still with no dead pixels and runs daily.
