Average life of a Plextor burner?

I have a 24x CDRW Plextor and basically it reads CDs really slow. What is the average life of a CDRW, especially a Plextor?

My 16x10x40a is going on 2 years and I have yet to have a problem with it.

I've had my 12x4x32 SCSI Plextor since 1996. Must have burned over
1500 CD's. Not a single hardware problem.

I put a Plextor 12X in my dad's PC 3 years ago and it is still working fine. I know he burned at least 150 CD's.

Mine did that too. Not over time though, it happened as soon as I updated from the 1.01 firmware. CD read speeds were horrible, went back to 1.01, read speeds went back to normal but it couldn't read my el cheapo CD-R's without the 1.02 and above firmware I just used my DVD drive to install and copy things...

I bought my 16x plextor burner back in Feb 2001 when it just came out. It's still going strong.
