Opinions? Preferences? They are priced within $5 of each other. A different card maybe? The bug has bit me now. Thank you.

I don't have any experience with either of those cards, but the ATI TV Wonder works quite well. Supports stereo sound too. I think it uses the same connexant chipset as the Haupage card though, which is a good thing, because then you can use DScaler, which is one of the best, and free, applications I've seen.

I recommend the Winfast tv XP2000 cause it works well in WinXP and it has a nice overall sharp picture.
People have had problems with the ATI and I don't see the Aver media to be as good in quality either.

I agree with Maverick on this...I have read many hardware reviews/comparisons to decide all that I use on my computer. I just recently bought the Leadtek WinTv from newegg.com and got the upgraded deluxe version for the price of the normal. It is awesome! ATI=poo Leadte=yay!

I have 2 friends with ATI cards, and decided to go that route as well... we all run XP, and haven't had any problems at all. As for quality, it's excellent as far as I can tell, especially when using DScaler.

A remote would be nice though. :) The only feature the ATI has is a breakaway box with S-Video and RCA connections on it.

Given that the chipsets are the same for the majority of these cards, would that not make the drivers a non-issue (use generic brooktree drivers...) and make quality similar for all cards?

I have the AverTV and it rocks. Supposedly tv cards are hard to setup (my friend has an ati) but this one I just downloaded the drivers and it ran like a beauty.

Recroding is simple too.

What is the WinFast "Deluxe" version? I've been to the website and see no other than the TV2000XP. I'm also going to stay away from ATi, too expensive and too many driver issues; plus I want a PCI card, not AGP. Thanks everyone.

I don't see you finding an AGP TV tuner card unless it's an integrated solution along with a video card (ala the ATI All In Wonder cards). They will generally be PCI now, but if you find an old one it might be ISA.

Thanks all. I've chosen the WinFast 2K-XP. It has a digital tuner, can handle MPEG-4 compression, capture mp3 and is compatible with all flavors of Windows AND Suse 8. NewEgg for $68, thx again!

The deluxe version adds mts stereo for tv viewing and a better quality remote. The deluxe version seemed to be an overseas product (if you go to www.leadtek.com and choose the Europe/Asia sites you can get all the info on the deluxe version), but now newegg is shipping it in the US.

Do either of these have an Electronic Program Guide (TV listings) that let you set preferred shows for PVR?

My understanding is it does (but will dblchk WF Euro/Asia site to see). The 2000 is a digital card so it'll be compatible with HDTV but the AVer is analog only. I'll need the WDM drivers for vid capture with the 2000 so I hope something similar exists in Suse 8; another reason to keep 98SE around, nothin' like dual-boot!

Why do you think this will be compatible with HDTV? I don't see anywhere that it states it supports DTV, it only lists NTSC, PAL or SECAM. If it were to support DTV, it should say something about ATSC, 8-VSB or COFDM.
