I got my sunflower in today and the fan was mounted to blow on to the processor, but I thought heatsinks were supposed to suck the hot air away. I was just wondering how everybody else had their fan setup - suck or blow?

It's supposed to blow. Alpha's and a few others suck, but most blow TTBOMK.

I dont think it makes one bit of difference whichever way you mount the fan EXCEPT that if it sucks air out, the added heat will reduce the life of the bearings in your fan. maybe drastically. Also watch out for cheap electrolytic capacitors near the vented sides of the heatsink as it will shorten their life too, but probably not as much as your fan.

Most HSF's are setup to blow. The design of the heatsink has a lot to do with which way cools better (thus, some alphas work better with fans setup to suck air, while other heatsinks work better with fans set to blow). I believe the APC was designed for a fan to blow down onto the processor (the design of the radial fins curving around seems quite "aerodynamic"). However, you should setup MBM 5 (or some other monitoring program) and try it both ways. Run it through prime95 for a few hours, and compare.
