He decided the first of these (in theaters Dec. 16, 2022) would be set primarily underwater, requiring months of training actors to hold their breath for lengths that would impress even a Navy SEAL.

Avatar premiered in 2009.
WTF 13yrs to make a sequel to the highest grossing film EVAR?!

would have figured the movie studio would give director James Cameron a blank check to come out with a sequel within 2-3 years.

Trivia:
James Cameron also made the previous highest grossing movie, Transformers.

I'm also surprised it's taken this long to get the first sequel out. I hope they're good. Cameron's movies usually are.

They don't shoot them like this as much anymore. LOTR was unique. GOT also. Insane sets. CGI as a tool, not a crutch. Trying to use less CGI rather than heavily lean on it. Should be good.

Will Avatar (2009) be released in 4K UHD Blu-ray? Watched it in 3D when it came out and bought the 3D Blu-ray for the 46" Panasonic 3DTV 1080p 2011, 3D player and active glasses.

Avatar was a mediocre at best movie. It's my opinion that the only reason it was the highest grossing film of its time was because it was the first film worth watching in 3D and the premium ticket prices inflated the box office numbers.

I agree the base story was meh and formulaic...not many surprises...but the graphics were amazing.

It was absolutely mediocre at best, acting was fairly cringe at multiple points and yet I continue to enjoy watching it. I can't explain it.

Avatar was the best 3D movie I've ever seen. I've only seen it once though, because I thought the plot was mediocre. Don't know if I'll see Avatar 2 before it hits a streaming service.
