Awesome [download speed] - hopefully it'll be more than a 5 minute demo :)

Pretty good demo -

Over the shoulder like Gears of War.
Crysis style jungle combat

One of the few game movies that's actually pretty good.

Hopefully it will give proper credits to how good the Dunia engine is, the problem is that it powered a ridiculously boring game, so its name has been tarnished, and as a matter of fact Dunia only has those two games under its belt (FarCry 2 and Avatar), as if no one wanted to hear about it anymore, and that's a serious waste in my opinion.

Someone will eventually get it: 'Wait, you mean we can make hundreds of millions of dollars....TWICE...if we have a good game associated with the movie??'

On the other hand, it is Hollywood....so it might take a couple of decades...

If they spent as much time on the game as Cameron has on the movie it'd probably be brilliant but I doubt its going to be anywhere near as good as the movie. A shame too because there is a great storyline here and the action and visuals are also spectacular in the movie and if they could transfer that to a game it'd be great. I'm guessing the gameplay is gonna be lackluster though which will kill it no matter how good the visuals are. But maybe they'll prove me wrong. Who knows?

Its funny, when I originally posted the link I did so because I thought some people would be interested. However, I was thinking that it was just going to be another crap movie-based game rushed out to make a quick buck.

I may have to give it a look. Ironically, it might actually be a decent game based on a crap movie. And yes, make no mistake, the movie will be awful.

I played through it last night, it's exactly what you want from a demo - they give you a pretty good loadout, tease you with mech and vehicles, and give you a good example of the gameplay.

As far as gameplay, coloumb got it right, feels like gears of war in the jungle. When the extraterrestrial blue man group guys come running at you, you do go AAARGH a couple of times but then just bust out the flamethrower. We'll see what the full version is like.

Was bummed that they didn't give a taste of fighting as the blue man group.

Visuals are very good in DX10, could only run settings on High with decent framerates (Q6600/8800GTS 640) so there's some headroom for better rigs.

They've got a ton of 3d options integrated into the game itself. Looks like this is going to be the game that ends the debate on whether 3d gaming is going to become mainstream or just overhyped. Interested to see a full 3d review.

I don't have a graphics card that can run this game and it's not yet up on XBL (at least not on the Danish one). Can someone comment on the demo? How is it? I am pumped for the movie but deep inside I feel it will suck beyond belief... (I really hope my gut feeling is wrong though).

Thanks a lot :) Can't wait to try it myself

You've seen the movie already?

The wife and I go to the movies almost every weekend, sometimes we go more than once every weekend, so I have seen all the in theatre trailers as well as those posted up on the Internet so I feel I have a pretty good idea how the movie looks visually. From what I know of the storyline it sounds solid as well. Avatar is going to make some serious money. Cameron has another hit on his hands. Just you wait and see. ;-)

From the same places as you have your information from, I can say yes, visually, it's going to be more stunning than any other movie ever made.

That being said, the plot/characters/acting will probably be as bad as you can possibly imagine.

Will it be worth my $20/gas + $10/ticket to see it in 3D? Don't know...but I'm willing to find out.

I saw the trailer for Avatar at the cinema last night. In theory it should be an awesome film, but. . . well, I think the game's graphics are going to be as good as the movie, because for some reason the CGI in the movie (blue people and tanks/etc) looked really bad. . . like I was looking at a PC game rather than properly rendered movie effects.

Well, even if everything in the movie is solid, graphics, script, acting, storyline, etc., etc., we still don't know if the game can capture it all adequately. I'm in agreement with KeithP and some of the others here where it probably won't be a good game. But if they could capture the movie... sure would be sweet.

Game looks amazing, if you've got a descent rig go download it. Gameplay is so-so, nothing extraordinary. It's very similar to Lost Planet.

Here are some screen shots from the demo. These are all taken on max settings with 8x AA, It runs extremely well, so it seems to be a pretty descent port, if it is a port. (click to enlarge 1680x1050)
