Available VPN Software Solutions ?

looking for a "robust" software solution for connecting two LAN over the WAN. NetBIOS support would be an added plus.

obviously two router (hardware solution - i.e. FVS318G/N) at each end providing a tunnel is the ideal solution.

would like to consider software solution too if available. do not bother recommending cloud type VPN (Hamachi or the like). those type of service are garbage. not interested in relying on 3rd party servers/hardware.

thanks.

There's OpenVPN, which works nice, but it is a PAIN to setup. There's plenty of tutorials online though. I find it's easier to follow those instructions and setup a separate server, than to use whatever is built into routers, as even what is built into routers like pfsense, is not cut and dry and trying to find a tutorial specific to that router is harder than trying to find one

Thanks for recommendation. OpenVPN is same as Hamachi. No Go.

Do not have to be free nor easy to setup. However it should emulate the hardware VPN.

LAN1 <-> Server1 <-> Router1 <-> Internet <-> Router2 <-> Server2 <-> LAN2

Grab a couple of Cisco 2811 and set up a VTI.

If you absolutely need NetBIOS to work, then you're going to need a layer 2 VPN. For that, two Juniper SRX100Hs would work, configuring CCCoMPLSoGREoIPSec (basically a psuedowire over MPLS over GRE over IPsec.)
