Neo, sometimes you leave me like this:😱

Symantec don have to give permission anymore than any other Co who offers these apps! Anymore than say Intel or AMD have to give permission for independent pundits to review their chips. Why would you think otherwise?????

When I chose Norton.....well over a year ago, maybe more, can't remember, I chose it in large part, based on the in depth reviews, compared to all others I read online.
u got me wrong dawg. I used Norton Antivirus for almost 6 months, they are very good and light on the system, it's just that they refuse to participate in these tests but they ARE good

Again, NO PERMISSIONS ARE REQUIRED IN SUCH!!! the only worthy reviews of ANYTHING.....are in depth, independent reviews wherein no actual communication is needed between the reviewers and the makers of the product in question.

That....is what independent means.

Again, in depth, independent reviews of Norton products are all over the net!

For openers: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2424558,00.asp

And for their AV as opposed to their IS suite above: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2424118,00.asp

I also recommend U read the comments/responses to the reviews.

Independent reviews of almost everything U can imagine are one of the great blessings of the net!!!!

Bottom line, all the independent reviews I read before I tested Norton way back, have proved accurate in my subjective experience.

Even deeper: here is a site which assesses comparative credibility of those doing the independent reviews and delineates their respective MOs!

Noooo!😱 If what you share reflects that your AV has precluded infection, which it well might.......that's huge.

Given what's out there increasingly, and give excellent free apps, why anyone would choose NOT to run one, I can not imagine.😵

? My AV has detected nothing. Nothing prevented. I ran naked for years (3 - 4 years) until I got a job at Trend Micro, then I got their AV for free, so I installed that for a few years. Then went back to nothing after the license expired when I quit that crap job. Been running MSE for the past couple years.

Appreciate the clarification. Running MSE is a good thing short of choosing some third party app. I've heard only good things about MSE, tho never tried it myself, know the option is always there.

But no way would I recommend "running naked." Esp.....with scissors.😎:whiste:

Been running MSE for the past couple years.
I feel sorry for you

Great chart. I've been using Avast for quite a while now, but after I upgraded to the latest version weird things started happening and I went back to... MSE 😳.

I feel sorry for you

Why? I have not been infected by anything. In fact I think AV is mostly useless for me. There is almost zero chance of infection now. The biggest infection vector, the floppy, doesn't exist anymore for me. I don't use USB drives. I don't download warez. I only use webmail which has Norton already.

So please tell me WHY I should install any of these great AV solutions you advocate?

Not sure what OS you R running, but nothing is impervious to infection no matter your surfing habits. How did you arrive at "almost zero chance" of infection?

Plus, MSE is, by many accounts, effective. So, if I am correct, that you do run it, you ARE protected.

As Windows 7's market share passes 3.6%, up from 1.9% the day before launch, llManDrakell notes an experiment they did over at Sophos. They installed Windows 7 on a clean machine — with no anti-virus protection — with User Access Control in its default configuration. They threw at it the next 10 virus/worm samples that came in the door. Seven of them ran; UAC stopped only one baddie that had run in the absense of UAC. "Lesson learned? You still need to run anti-virus on Windows 7."

I just bought a 1 year license for Norton Antivirus for 3 PCs for 24 USD from Major Geeks

I am once again like 😱

But this time, in a good way.😎

Clearly, U ain about moderation in anything.😉

24 USD?????????😵 Course, I went for the IS Suite, cause it covers all bases I want covered.

yup, half the price of the ones on their site

after I bought it and activated it, the code was automatically added to my Norton Account 🙂

That truly rocks. I also like my Norton IS, cause it is totally hassle free, again, I almost never even open it.

Down the road, share your take on yr new Norton.

And I do luv Major Geeks. Safest download site, esp for freewares, out there. No smoke, mirrors, toolbars or other sneakies.
